Come and visit Fairfield Campus at one of the upcoming events:
Set amidst picturesque parklands close to the Yarra River and only a few kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD, the heritage listed Fairfield campus of NMIT (Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE), facilitates hands on learning in the following areas:
- Performing Arts (Music, Music Industry and Drama)
- Visual Arts (Photography and Illustration)
- Jewellery
- Horticulture
- Animal studies
- Science
- Writing and Publishing
Formerly, home to the Infectious Diseases Hospital (closed in 1996), NMIT took over the grounds in 2004 and moved its Horticulture program from Parkville across, making it NMIT’s second largest campus (over 2,000 students). It is now home to NMIT's Creative Arts Department that delivers Bachelor degree programs in Illustration, Music, Music Industry, and Writing and Publishing.
Yarra House, formerly the residential nurses' quarters for the hospital, has now been completely renovated and transformed to provide NMIT's first on-campus student accommodation. For more details visit www.yarrahouse.com.au or download a flyer.
The Fairfield campus Library now has extended hours for study and computer facilities with swipe card access. Download Fairfield Library Study Facilities Brochure.
There is plenty going on across campus with regular exhibitions at the Building B Gallery Space, concerts at Yarra Edge Music Centre, plant sales at the Nursery, food on offer at the cafeteria and great resources at the library.
Don’t forget to say hello to the peacocks roaming the grounds!
