What is a Traineeship?

A traineeship benefits both the employee and the employer. The employee receives nationally accreditated training and the employer has access to training programs for staff designed to improve workplace skills. Traineeships are similar to apprenticeships with the education provider, employee and employer involved with skill development, but traineeships are usually in vocations not covered by the traditional apprenticeship-style training.

NMIT offers traineeships in business, computer systems & electrotechnology, health & community studies, hospitality, retail & wholesale and visual arts.

Why a Traineeship?

You and your employee benefit from training that is customised to suit the needs of your business. The trainee, upon successful completion, receives a nationally accredited Certificate. When this is added to financial incentives, you will be as delighted as other clients of NMIT.

Incentives for Employers of Trainees

Both new and existing employees can become trainees and benefit from the training. There are substantial incentives available for eligible trainees and you will need to discuss this with a representative from an Australian Apprenticeships Centre.

Australian Apprenticeships centres can advise you regarding the Training Contract and the incentives payable for your trainee.

These incentives more than compensate for the costs of training.

Our Clients say:

I would like to take this opportunity to compliment NMIT staff for the quality service they provide and consistent encouragement given to our trainees during their placement with the MFB-Training and Education Department, especially the efforts displayed by our trainer/mentor. I have been impressed by her professionalism and commitment to the development of the students and know that the trainees have benefited greatly.
Marina Ware, Metropolitan Fire Brigade

We asked NMIT to provide, at very short notice, a course of study to offer to a group of workers that range in age and experience with some language issues. This study had to address computers, general business practices, O H &S. This rather daunting task was addressed with professional and efficient “can do” attitudes. This same “can do” attitude is still shown to this group of students, through the motivation given, to keep going when things are tough.
Gordon Bate, Visy-The Packaging Co.

After trying unsuccessfully to complete Certificate III in Business training with other organisations, I am pleased to say that my staff and I are well on our way with our NMIT training.
All credit to our mentor/trainer for her constant support and encouragement to trainees. She is always in contact checking progress and always makes herself available for trainees, unlike previous training organisations. Well done to the team at NMIT. Great people delivering a great course.
Angela Fulton, Merrilands Secondary College

Traineeships provide a smooth process for on-the-job training which is an efficient way of training staff without loss of working hours. NMIT provides a very supportive, friendly and professional process to easily obtain a recognised qualification. I would not hesitate to recommend this NMIT/Traineeship program to other employers.
Elaine Forde, Pacific Shopping Centre

Our course with NMIT was delivered in a flexible supportive manner, which allowed for learning in the workplace, on campus and off campus. Our facilitator provided strong encouragement and guidance through each module by face-to-face contact, email and telephone calls.
Shirley Walters, Our Lady of Mercy College

Our trainees enjoyed the traineeship and found it very informative. Because the trainer was so passionate about her work, our trainees could not help but enjoy and respond positively to the modules.
