The Bachelor of Accounting is a newly accredited (VRQA) degree which was developed to meet the growing demand for business professionals qualified in the areas of Accounting and sustainable business. It is ideal for those wishing to combine a mainstream Accounting course with a sustainability and environmental focus. The course covers traditional Accounting subjects including Financial and Management, Accounting, Auditing and Taxation whilst at the same time, providing a focus on environmental sustainability which will have a growing impact on traditional business practice.
The course provides:
- The integration of an academically rigorous program in accounting with the emerging area of sustainability.
- Meeting the needs of professional bodies, including CPA Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants and the National Institute of Accountants (NIA).
- A multi disciplinary approach to the study of sustainability, accounting, law and business.
- Latest accounting practices regarding the introduction and implementation of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act (2007), in addition to international obligations requiring adoption of sustainable business practices, such as the Kyoto Protocol.
- Providing graduates with the range of skills required in today’s global business environment to be ethically and socially responsible.

Why study Accounting at NMIT?
Employment opportunities abound in the areas of general accounting, taxation, auditing, business consulting and management as well as sustainable business management and sustainable auditing. This course will prepare students for the changes facing business, society and the accounting profession in the future.
It is designed to meet the curriculum requirements of the major professional accounting bodies - specifically the National Institute of Accountants, CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants. The degree incorporates the key curriculum areas of: financial accounting, management accounting, finance, auditing and assurance, commercial and corporations law, Australian taxation law, information systems design and development, economics, quantitative methods and ethics.
In addition, the degree utilises a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of sustainability, accounting, law and business. Graduates will develop a broad understanding of sustainability, incorporating elements of science, engineering, design and construction, law, social implications and international policy.
The course is located at NMIT's Preston campus with entrance requirements being successful completion of Year 12 VCE or equivalent with English, or successful completion of a minimum TAFE Certificate IV or any other Higher Education course.

What is the cost of studying at NMIT?
Students can enrol in NMIT's bachelor courses for three year's full-time, or have the option of enrolling part-time. The degree programs are fee for service and costs A$12,000 a year, or $1,500 per subject. No additional fees are charged beyond the tuition fees for the compulsory components of any higher education courses.
The tuition fees are calculated based on full-time study. Part-time fees per year depend on subjects chosen (part-time study is only available to domestic students).
Where will studying Accounting at NMIT take me?
The degree offers three years of specialised accounting subjects and utilises a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of sustainability, accounting, law and business. Graduates will develop a broad understanding of sustainability, incorporating elements of science, engineering, design and construction, law, social implications and international policy.
A key outcome of the degree for graduates will be their ability to contribute and produce internal and external reports. This will enable their employing organisations to meet their greenhouse and energy reporting obligations (National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007) and public environmental disclosure requirements. Graduates will also have the knowledge and skills to provide leadership in the area of sustainability in the business environment.
Employment might also be found in Government agencies, such as the EPA, Victorian Department of Treasury and Finance, and the Victorian Commissioner for Environmental Sustainability.
Another key aspect of the degree will be a practical and solutions oriented focus, enabling graduates to make meaningful contributions to organisations and business. The practical aspect of this course will ensure that graduates are work ready, with relevant employability skills. The Business Sustainability Project (SUS308) will act as a capstone subject for the degree, combining the theoretical elements of the course with an industry-based project. Career options include:
