    What is the Bachelor of Information Technology?

    The Bachelor of Information Technology at NMIT has a distinctly business flavour.

    The Bachelor of Information Technology is a newly accredited (VRQA) degree which was developed to meet the growing demand for business professionals qualified in the areas of Network Security, Business Information Systems and Software Development.

    It is ideal for those wishing to combine a mainstream business orientated Information Technology course with either a Network Security, Business Information Systems or Software Development focus.

    Why study the Bachelor of Information Technology at NMIT?

    A career in business orientated information technology offers the potential for great financial reward and growth, yet also demands a wide range of specialised skills and knowledge. These programs are designed to provide both theoretical knowledge and high-level vocational skills in information technology with a business focus. This aims to meet the needs of both local and multinational organisations and the broader business community.

    The course covers traditional introductory information technology subjects including Networking, Programming, Systems Analysis, Data Base Systems, at the same time, providing a focus on one of the specialty areas of Network Security, Business Information Systems and Software Development.

    The course provides:

    • The integration of an academically rigorous program in information technology with the emerging area of network security, business intelligence and cloud application development.
    • Inclusion of maintsream information technology subjects including networking,  programming, systems analysis, databasesystems.
    • A multi disciplinary approach to the study of to the study of information technology and business.
    • Latest information technology practices regarding the introduction and implementation of network security standards, recently evolving business intelligence and e-business applications and systems.
    • Providing graduates with the range of skills required in today’s information technology enabling global business environments.
    • Graduate outcomes which are practical, solutions orientated and can make a meaningful contribution to the information technology profession and more broadly the business community.
    • A course which is up to datet, and industry relevant, consistent with the emerging trend in information technology education.

    The Associate Degree of Information Technology is an embedded exit point at the completion of the second year of the Bachelor of Information Technology. To gain this qualification, students must complete all first and second year subjects of the Bachelor program.

    The course is located at NMIT's Collingwood and Preston campuses with entrance requirements being successful completion of Year 12 VCE or equivalent with English, or successful completion of a minimum TAFE Diploma or any other Higher Education course.

    What is the cost of studying at NMIT?

    Students can enrol in NMIT's bachelor courses for three year's full-time, or have the option of enrolling part-time. The degree programs are fee for service and costs A$12,000 a year, or A$1,500 per subject. However all courses have the option of FEE-HELP for eligible students. No additional fees are charged beyond the tuition fees for the compulsory components of any higher education courses.

    The tuition fees are calculated based on full-time study. Part-time fees per year depend on subjects chosen (part-time study is only available to domestic students).
