NMIT is authorized to conduct higher education courses by the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) in accordance with the Section 4.3.33 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 and all NMIT higher education courses are accredited by the VRQA under Section 4.4.2.

Higher Education Academic Committee (HEAC)

The Higher Education Academic Committee (HEAC) assists the NMIT Board in ensuring the appropriate management of NMIT Higher Education programs and the maintenance of high standards in teaching and academic performance.

Membership of HEAC includes all senior NMIT managers with significant operational responsibilities in higher education, the Head of Program for each degree, external members, and elected higher education staff and student representatives.  NMIT has recruited external members of high academic standing and significant experience in academic governance to HEAC.

Degree Committees

NMIT has established Degree Committees for each of its higher education courses. Degree Committees evaluate courses and their academic standards in relation to professional relevance, developments in the discipline, community expectations, and against international benchmarks. Degree Committees provide advice to Faculties on the standing of degree courses, identify opportunities, and recommend improvement strategies.

In consideration of the applied vocational focus of NMIT higher education programs, the Degree Committees recruit external members on basis of their understanding of academic issues, their industry experience and their professional standing.
