NMIT course: Advanced Diploma of Engineering Technology (Jewellery)
Tell us a little about yourself.
I came from South Korea where I have a background in kindergarten teaching before studying at NMIT
What influenced you to study Jewellery at NMIT?
I was influenced by all of the teachers in my course, especially Lynley Traeger.
She was my teacher at first year. The first year in NMIT to me was not easy because I could not speak English well and hard to understand every unit. However she always explained things again when I ask even she gave me her personal phone number if I had a question. I learnt lot about jewellery from her.
How did you find out about NMIT?
Actually I didn't know NMIT had a jewellery course and I was prepared to study at another TAFE. However a of my friend who was doing a gold and silversmithing master course at university at that time, recommended studying at NMIT because of the competent teachers there. So I gave up interview with the other TAFE and applied to NMIT.
What advice would you give to students considering studying Jewellery at NMIT?
Before you choose your school, I think you need lots of advised from people who are studying what you want to study. And also you have to find information by yourself from places like internet sites. Don't believe a lot education agents because sometimes they doesn't know which course of which school is better than others and they just have information from different schools and only help you to apply.
What is next for you?
Firstly, I need relax then I will be working my business when I go back to Korea.
The business is about jewellery and it will include in Australia.
What's been the most valuable lesson you've learnt along the way?
Well, I think making journal and doing research were both very valuable to me.
During the research, in first year, I went RMIT, Monash and even Box Hill.
I was borrowed many books from there and that gave me important knowledge of jewellery.
