Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Omer. I’m 23 years old. I went to university to study Economics after I finished high school. I graduated from university last year.

What influenced you to study ELICOS at NMIT?
After university I looked for a job but I couldn’t find one because I couldn’t speak English. If you want to get a good job in my country you need to speak English. This situation was a handicap so I decided to learn English.

How did you find out about NMIT?
One of my friends from Turkey who is also my neighbour, came here to study Marketing. I talked to her and asked her about English courses in Melbourne. She suggested NMIT because she had heard good reviews about NMIT.

What advice would you give to students considering studying ELICOS at NMIT?
If they want to learn English correctly and quickly, they should go other countries where English is spoken. Melbourne is a good choice, there are lots of kind people here. And NMIT, I am content to study at NMIT. I’ve been studying at NMIT for just 3 months but my English has developed very quickly.

What is next for you?
Firstly I want to learn English until I speak very well. Then I want to study Information Technology here. When I finish my education I’ll go back to Turkey to find a good job.

What's been the most valuable lesson you've learnt along the way?
When I was in Turkey, everything looked easy but when I came here I realized that it was important to challenge myself because learning English and living away from home was not so easy. If I decided to learn English in Turkey, I wouldn’t improve as much as I have here in Melbourne.
