Tell us a little about yourself
I received my Primary & Secondary Education at a leading school in Sri Lanka, namely "Nalanda College", Colombo. I passed the G.C.E (Advanced Level) Examination in 2004. I was the Deputy Head Prefect of the College in 2004 /2005. I was awarded the subject prize for Accountancy in Grade 13 in 2003 while I was nominated as the most outstanding student award in the year 2004. I won the Gold Star Medal in 1996 for 'Cub Scouting' and was a Founder Member of College Health Club in 2000, where I held the office as President during 2002 /2003 session. I became the College Champion in Chess in under 17 & 19 categories at the Inter House Sports Meets held in 2001 & 2003 respectively. The other achievements include my working as the Co-ordinator for College Commerce Society ( 2003 /2004 ), working as an Audio Operator in the College Communication Unit (1999/2000) and functioning as a very active member in College 'Temperance Society' and College 'Social Service League'.
Even today ,while being in Australia, I continue my Social Service work by donating blood at regular intervals, for the needy people. I contributed to the best of my ability by donating and attending many events organized to raise funds in support of recent 'Bush Fire Victims'.
What influenced you to study Information Technology at NMIT?
I realized in college that I had a talent for subjects such as Accounting, Business Studies & Economics , where I scored good marks at term tests. Having identified my ability in such subjects, my teachers too advised me and encouraged me to select a career in Accounting. It is a well established fact in Sri Lanka that Australia is one of the world’s best countries to pursue higher education studies in the field of Accounting . My teacher in Accounting at Nalanda College who had read about NMIT via internet, recommended NMIT and advised me to go through the details provided on the NMIT website.

What advice would you give to students considering studying Information Technology at NMIT?
I gladly recommend NMIT as an institution. AN ideal atmosphere exists for everyone who wish to learn the field of Accounting with confidence and a realistic approach so that they could grasp all the valuable subject matter systematically. When we fisnish the course we will turn out to be expertise personnel who can contribute positively to the development of our home country .
What is next for you?
Having successfully completed the Advance Diploma in Accounting, it is my intention now to continue further studies in Australia leading to the award of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. With the enhancement of my knowledge in the field of Accounting and moreover obtaining the necessary foundation for same knowledge through a reputed institution such as NMIT will no doubt make me a person capable of handling challenges in the field of Accounting, with confidence and accuracy.
What's been the most valuable lesson you've learnt along the way?
One of the most important lessons I have learnt during my past period with NMIT is to plan out my daily routine work systematically and be punctual in executing tasks assigned to me. This is the most valuable lesson I have learned. Along with the many other things that I have learnt from NMIT, I know I will eventually be able to be a useful citizen I whichever country I decide to work in. My example will thus enable NMIT to keep its flag flying high, depicting a symbol of a great educational institution in Australia.
