Tell us a little about yourself.
Born in Mauritius, I came to Melbourne especially for my studies. I am a very active person, I like sports such as tennis, softball, swimming. I also enjoy cooking, volunteer work when I have time. In fact I like manual work such as any craft works. Also, being a member of the girl guide company, I am always ready to serve and help people in any ways.
What influenced you to study Interior Design at NMIT?
After experiencing my studies in Floristry last year, I decided to go further in my studies but did not know in what field. Thanks to my tutors advice and after thinking a lot about it, I went for Interior design.
How did you find out about NMIT?
I found out about NMIT through an annual university and TAFE conference and open day for those who wanted to study in Australia. NMIT was the only TAFE where I found the floristry course. I have been talking to the representative and she gave me more information about the course and the TAFE itself.
What advice would you give to students considering studying Interior Design at NMIT?
I must say that this course is quite hard and very demanding but if it is your choice and if you really like it, well you will enjoy it very much, because you learn so many things. Also do not be afraid to ask any questions at any time to the tutors, they are very friendly and approachable and very helpful.
What is next for you?
Well, it depends how it goes with my course as I am still in my first year. But I have been thinking of either go further in Interior Design, meaning a degree or else start working for a while in Melbourne to get more work experience. And afterwards, I will go back to my country to start my career. I will be trying to work as a floral designer together being an interior design as well.
What's been the most valuable lesson you've learnt along the way?
I have learnt so many things about myself and about my talents. Being more confident and trusting myself are the most valuable lessons I have learnt. Follow your own heart and do not listen to the others comments or criteria if you think you did well, consider yourself as a winner and not a loser.
