NMIT is keen to reward students who are able to demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to their studies as well as academic or skills excellence. Members of the NMIT Industry Foundation generously provide NMIT students with grants and tours designed to assist them with their study.

The Awards Program is designed to acknowledge students who are able to demonstrate the following:

  • Enthusiasm and commitment to their studies
  • Academic and/or skills excellence

There are two types of Study Grant opportunities for students:

Applications for 2012 Study Grants are now closed however should you be studying at NMIT in 2013, we encourage you to apply.


Open Study Grants

NMIT’s Open Study Grants are available to domestic students who have enrolled in the first or second year of a full time, government funded course in 2012.

The number of Study Grants available vary from year to year however in 2012 NMIT had 14 available for students studying a VET program.

NMIT has three types of Study Grants for students.

1. VET and Higher Education Open Study Grants

VET Open Study Grants are available to students who are an Australian Citizen studying a Certificate, Diploma or Advanced Diploma course at NMIT. Higher Education Open Study Grants are available to students who are enrolled in an Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree at NMIT.

2. Open Study Grants with Eligibility Conditions

The City of Darebin have been a long time sponsor of NMIT Study Grants and have three Study Grants with additional eligibility conditions. These are:

  • 1. must be a City of Darebin resident
  • 2. must be a City of Darebin resident and of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander descent
  • 3. must be of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) and undertaking a Certificate III or above course at NMIT

For the best chance of success:

  • Make sure you leave enough time to complete your application thoroughly
  • Address the criteria identified on the form clearly and concisely
  • Provide copies of documents that support your application

The applications are assessed by a panel and appointed based on your ability to address the criteria. All applicants are notified of the outcome of the application and the selection panel’s decision is final.

3. Department Appointed Grants

Department appointed Study Grants are offered only to students that have been nominated and selected by NMIT department staff.

In deciding on the grant winners, staff will look at your results or quality of work, Commitment/Work ethic, attendance record, contribution in class/teamwork and your understanding and knowledge of the industry you’re studying.
