Interstate Students - excluding Apprentices and Trainees

Interstate students who come to Victoria to undertake training and meet all other eligibility requirements will be eligible for a government funded place.

Interstate students enrolled in an NMIT online course are not eligible for a government funded place.

Note: this does not apply to Apprentices and Trainees who have different cross border arrangements

Payment Options

Paying Your Tuition Fees

NMIT accepts Cash, EFTPOS, Visa, Mastercard and cheque.

Note: Banks set a daily limit on EFTPOS cards. If your fees and other purchases on the same day exceed your EFTPOS limit, please organise an additional method of payment, eg cash, credit card or cheque. Or you can increase your limit prior to payment of fees.

Concessions

For enrolments in Government Funded places at the Certificate IV level and below, NMIT will charge the concession fee to an individual who holds a current and valid card (see below) at the time of enrolment:

  • Commonwealth Health Care Card;
  • Pensioner Concession Card; or
  • Veteran’s Gold Card; or
  • An alternative card or concession eligibility criterion approved by the Minister for the purposes of these Guidelines.

The concessions provided also apply to a dependant spouse or dependent child of a card holder.

NMIT Instalment Payment Plan

NMIT is committed to helping students manage their fees!

In 2013, will you be:

  • Enrolling in a Cert I – IV program at NMIT or;
  • Ineligible for a government subsidised place in a Diploma or Advanced Diploma program at NMIT;
  • Eligible for a government subsidised place in a Diploma or Advanced Diploma program but ineligible for VET FEE-HELP (eg; not an Australian citizen)

If you answered YES to any of these, the NMIT Instalment Payment Plan may be available to you where your tuition fees are $500* or more.

Conditions apply:

  • Students must pay a deposit of 30% of the total tuition fees plus 100% of the student amenities and materials fees at the time of enrolment
  • You must sign an agreement accepting full responsibility to pay instalments by due dates listed on the Payment Schedule;
  • It is your responsibility to ensure that you provide your current email address to NMIT for correspondence issuing notices and reminders. NMIT shall deem that the notices have been delivered when the email is sent and there is no bounce back through the NMIT email system;
  • It is your responsibility to regularly check the nominated email account and comply with the Payment Plan;
  • You must inform Information Services at NMIT of any circumstances that may affect the Payment Plan Agreement as they arise;
  • Full payment of tuition fees must be made prior to the final assessment/completion of the module/subject/course;
  • The Instalment Payment Plan is not an available option for payments by companies on behalf of students;
  • Refunds will be handled consistently with the current refunds policy.

*Students experiencing financial difficulty paying tuition fees less than $500 may be eligible for a Student Loan. Contact Student Services on 9269 1314 for more information.

VET FEE-HELP

You could be eligible to access a VET FEE-HELP loan to pay your VET tuition fees for a number of NMIT Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas.

You can apply for VET FEE-HELP if you’re a student studying in Australia who is:

  • an Australian citizen or permanent humanitarian visa holder;
  • enrolled on or before the census date of an eligible unit of study through an approved VET provider;
  • meet tax file number requirements;
  • have not exceeded the FEE-HELP limit

VET FEE-HELP allows an eligible student to have all or part of their VET tuition fees paid by the Australian Government in the form of a loan, regardless of whether they are eligible or not for a government funded place.

Students can access a VET FEE-HELP loan to pay their VET tuition fees, articulate into university and then add their university costs until the maximum FEE-HELP maximum is reached. There is no age restriction on VET FEE-HELP.

Please note that where payment options mention they are for tuition fees only, you will need to pay Amenities and Materials upfront at the time of enrolment.

Instalment Payment Plans (IPP)

IPP for tuition fees only greater than $500 and your course must run for at least one semester or more (ie; not a short course).

Third party loan via ANZ Preston Branch @ 457 High Street, Preston

Minimum loan amount $5,000

You must be 18 years or over and an Australian resident

You must also be a full-time student taking on 540 hours or more per year (apprentices need 300 hours or more per year to qualify as full-time student)

Third party loan via Bendigo Bank @ 380 High Street, Preston

Minimum loan amount $2,000

Your regular employment income considered

VET FEE-HELP (VFH)

You must apply for VFH at the time of your enrolment

Refunds

  • For full details see the NMIT Student Enrolment Fees and Charges Institute Rule (PDF) at NMIT Rules and policies or visit Refunds Information for a summary.
  • Full refund of all payments will be made for ANY course cancelled by NMIT.
  • For cancelled courses or full course withdrawals, Student ID Cards MUST be returned to NMIT when lodging Application for Refund of Fees form. Student ID Cards remain the property of NMIT.
  • Application for refunds must be made on official Application for Refund of Fees form.
  • Applications for refunds usually take two weeks to process, however during peak periods the processing time may be extended.
  • Where payment of fees was made by cheque, the refund cheque will be made out in the name of the original payer.
  • Credit Card refunds must be refunded on the same card used to make the original payment.

NO refund will be granted:

  • Outside of the current academic year.
  • After the census date for Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Higher Education courses.
  • For Institute Accredited courses if application lodged less than five (5) days prior to course commencement date.
