This page details:
- Steps students need to undertake to receive their qualification(s).
- Options students have for receiving their qualification(s).
1. How to receive your Qualification:
You need to apply for your Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree qualification once you have finished your course.
NMIT does not issue your Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree qualification automatically.
You must complete a separate application form if you are applying for more than one Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree qualification.
- Application Form for Certificate I to IV Qualification
- Application Form for Diploma or Degree Qualification (Testamur)
Please make note of the application close dates
There is quite an involved process in place to get Certificates, Diplomas and Degrees. Your application needs to be verified by Faculty Boards. Certificates, Diplomas and Degrees are then recommended for approval by the NMIT Board before we can run off a certificate, diploma or degree. Currently, NMIT only has the capacity to go through this process twice a year - but, we're investigating ways we can speed up this process. Watch this space.
Step 1: Complete an Application form.
You apply for your Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree qualification by completing the following form:
- Application Form for Certificate I to IV Qualification
- Application Form for Diploma to Degree Qualification (Testamur)
When completing this form, please print your name clearly.
A separate application form must be completed if applying for more than one qualification.
You then need to lodge your application(s) prior to the appropriate closing date by either of the following ways:
- Drop off your application(s) in person to the department relevant to your area of study.
- Drop off your application(s) in person at any campus Information Centre.
- By posting it to the Awards Office

NMIT issues qualifications twice a year – in June and November.

Step 2: Make sure your personal details are correct.
We mail out your qualification so it is important that your personal details are correct.
(Please note: Diploma and above students who are planning on attending Graduation, you will receive your qualification in person at the graduation ceremony).
Make sure you have provided us with your current details. You can do this by checking with Information Services staff at any campus Information Centre. If your address has changed, please complete an Amendment to Personal Details form. (Apprentices and Trainees should download this Amendment to Personal/Employment Details Form)
If you do not update your details, your qualification will be posted to the last known address.
