To kick start National Young Writers’ Month this year, we’re seeking contributors for our first ever travelling story.
We’re looking for 30 young writers aged under 25 from 30 different towns around Australia to contribute 100 words each to a collaborative story, to be published in the September issue of Voiceworks, #90 ‘Copy/Paste’.
Each selected writer will be placed in a numerical (1-30) order to contribute 100 words to a 3,000 word story based on their location in Australia. As it progresses around the country, the story will be emailed to a new writer in a new town every day of NYWM.
Regional applicants are strongly encouraged to submit.
To be considered as one of our 30 young writers in 2012, emailawards@expressmedia.org.au your name, age, and address, together with thenext 100 words you would add to this story starter by Chris Currie:
It’s only ten minutes later that she’s flying down the highway, rain coming out of the dark straight towards her. There’s that creamy scoop of moon, somehow definitively clear in the corner of the windshield, staying there, statically, even as she rips another sudden swerve. If only the radio worked. If only those noises would stop coming from the boot. That damn voice. There’s another factory up ahead, abandoned but still lit up strangely. It’s nearly too late when she sees the group, huddled in the middle of the road, all their eyes turned towards her. She jams the pedal.
As well as being published in Voiceworks, the 30 successful writers (as judged by Express Media staff) will each receive a one-year subscription to Voiceworksmagazine
Submissions close Monday May 21 at 5pm.
