This course is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills for employment in the Multimedia industry, this includes.

  • design principles and the creative media (including audio, video and 2D & 3D animation)
  • multimedia authoring and programming
  • multimedia hardware, networks
  • business, project management and communication skills
  • utilising and securing Multimedia.


The Advanced Diploma involves 800 hours of tuition, being made up of a number of competencies selected from a pool of modules belonging to the Information Technology Training Package. A sample of the competencies covered are given below:

Pathways to Further Study

Students completing the Advanced Diploma may be eligible for exemptions into various Victorian university courses. The amount of credit will depend on the type of university course students wish to enter. Please contact the university entrance office directly. Students will receive 80 credit points (equivalent to one year) if they are accepted into the Bachelor of Information Systems at the Australian Catholic University.

Career Opportunities

Appropriate for a person working autonomously as a multimedia designer in the media industry and for a person working as a multimedia designer at a management level in the media industry

This qualification is designed to reflect the role of personnel working in the multimedia industry who perform technical, design and managerial roles. It is possible to specialise in instructional design, project management, production duties, games or web site design.

Examples include:

  • manage projects
  • coordinate the production of multimedia products
  • business management
  • undertake instructional design
  • design Multimedia products
  • design and test games
  • produce animation
  • produce graphics
  • design navigation
  • design web sites/pages
  • edit multimedia
  • write for multimedia
  • design interfaces.


Students completing this stream will have a broad spectrum of employment opportunities, these include:

  • positions with specialist multimedia businesses
  • positions with organisations with core business in the arts, publishing,
  • telecommunications, computer hardware or software development
  • positions with medium to large sized organisations such as retailers, banks,
  • manufacturing and travel companies
  • online services and Multimedia development
  • self-employment, as sole traders, or in small partnerships developing
  • and maintaining multimedia products (especially web sites) for clients.

**Skills Recognition - Exemptions/Transfers

Students may be eligible for exemptions/transfers on the basis of previous qualifications, which must be provided as evidence of completion.

VET FEE-HELP helps you pay your VET tuition fees

You could be eligible to access a VET FEE-HELP loan to pay your VET tuition fees for a number of NMIT Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas.

You can apply for VET FEE-HELP if you’re a student studying in Australia who is:

  • an Australian citizen or permanent humanitarian visa holder who is resident in Australia for the duration of the unit of study VET FEE-HELP is being applied for;
  • enrolled on or before the census date* of an eligible unit of study through an approved VET provider;
  • meet tax file number requirements;
  • have not exceeded the FEE-HELP limit

VET FEE-HELP allows eligible students to have all or part of their VET tuition fees paid by the Australian Government in the form of a loan**, regardless of whether you are eligible or not for a government funded place under Skills Reform.

Over their lifetime, students can access a VET FEE-HELP loan to pay their VET tuition fees, articulate into university and then add their university costs until the maximum FEE-HELP maximum is reached. There is no age restriction on VET FEE-HELP.
