The Associate Degree of Tertiary Studies provides an alternative pathway into higher education. The two-year associate degree provides strong grounding in academic and foundational learning.
There are introductory studies in Sociology and History in the first year, followed by Environmental Studies, Science and Philosophy streams in the second.
Graduates are well equipped with general and transferable skills, all of which are keenly sought after by employers in a broad range of industries and are core requirements of degree level study.

Upon successful completion of the first year of the course (the higher education Diploma of Tertiary Studies) students can gain entry into:
NMIT’s Associate Degree Early Years Study, Bachelor of Early Years Study, or the Bachelor of Education (Early Years), subject to interview, with up to 12 credit points of advanced standing.
NMIT’s Bachelor of Accounting, with up to 24 credit points of advanced standing.
NMIT’s Bachelor of Business, with up to 36 credit points of advanced standing.
NMIT’s Bachelor of Information Technology, with up to 36 credit points of advanced standing.
La Trobe University’s Bachelor of Arts, with up to 60 credit points of advanced standing.
Upon successful completion of the Associate Degree of Tertiary Studies students can gain entry into:
La Trobe University’s Bachelor of Arts, with up to 120 credit points of advanced standing.
Career Opportunities
Students develop a broad range of general transferable skills which provide a pathway to higher education.
Entrance Requirements
Local Students:
Applicants will be selected based on an interview and literacy assessment.
International Students:
Successful completion of studies equivalent to Australian Year 12 education or relevant employment experience. All applicants must attend an interview. Interviews may be carried out in person or via Sykpe or telephone for international students applying from overseas or interstate. English language proficiency: IELTS Academic test score must be a minimum of 6.5 with no other band scores less than 6.0.Materials
Materials
An upfront material and amenities fee is applicable and is estimated at AU$30 per semester. Lists of materials required and book lists are provided at the start of the course to be purchased at an additional cost.

Units of Study
Credit points are a basic measure of student workload. All subjects are given a credit point value. Most subjects at NMIT are 12 credit points. A normal full-time annual workload is 96 credit points. The academic year is divided into two main semesters; full-time students usually enrol in 48 credit points each semester, part time students usually enrol in 24 credit points each semester or less.
