Drawn to illustrate

The Bachelor of Illustration at NMIT will develop your practical skills and knowledge to a high level and enhance your capacity to visually conceptualise. The degree also addresses business practice and opportunities for entrepreneurship in today’s creative arts industry.

Research is an essential component of the Bachelor of Illustration. You will investigate a wide range of visual art practices and draw on history, technology, commerce, media and cultural studies as you analyse and critique the development of illustration and visual language.

Let creativity lead to a career

New avenues of creativity will be explored. As new technologies have emerged over recent decades, so too has the context for illustration. As well as addressing traditional practices such as publishing, advertising, promotion and editorial work, illustration now embraces the gamut of contemporary visual culture.

Graduate illustrators can look to diverse career options in new media, film and urban design and art. You may realise your potential for personal expression and social commentary through the creation and production of comics and graphic novels.

Learn theory and practice for creativity and commerce

NMIT’s Bachelor of Illustration enables and supports the development of a personal style through exploration of traditional and contemporary art skills and practices. You’ll engage with both industry and the community through Work Integrated Learning projects.

You’ll learn with our staff of experienced, supportive teachers, all leading industry practitioners with wide ranging fields of expertise. Benefit from their networks as you attend the Bachelor of Illustration weekly Creative Forum with leading creative industry figures.

Be part of NMIT’s Creative Arts Department, a community of creative degrees students and teachers at our friendly Fairfield campus, peaceful yet buzzing with creativity.

Students who have successfully completed the first two years of the bachelor degree may choose to exit with the Associate Degree of Illustration qualification.
