This Certificate I in Creative Industries is offered through the VCAL division of the Youth Unit.
The Certificate I in Creative Industries is tailored to the meet the needs of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, with a high level of support provided. The program runs out of a newly established media training studio in Brunswick.
Develop the skills to perform tasks in areas such as:
- cinematography
- basic vision and sound editing
- on-air presentation.
Other areas of study include:
- research skills - collect and organise content for broadcast or publication
- creative thinking
- industry context
- occupational health and safety
- workplace effectiveness.
NMIT also offers the Certificate I in Creative Industries through the Work Education Centre.

Pathways to Further Study
Students who complete this course may move onto a variety of courses at the Certificate I and II levels, including the Certificate I in Transition Education, the Certificate I in Work Education, and the Certificate I and II in General Education for Adults. They may also receive credit for units of competence completed that exist in other courses through the Entertainment Training Package. Students may also move into paid employment, voluntary work or other service providers.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of this course may gain employment at base level entry points into a wide variety of industries.

Students will have special learning needs (possibly associated with intellectual, learning or psychological disabilities). They will have an interest in participating in community-based performing arts and entertainment activities, and must have the support of his or her family or advocate.
