This prevocational course offers students the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge required for entry in to an apprenticeship in the furniture industry.
During the course, students are given the opportunity to develop and apply skills and knowledge during production of specific projects.
The course consists of units of training taken directly from the Certificate III (Apprenticeship) course and also includes a formal practical placement (work experience) with a host employer in the furnishing/cabinet making industry.

Pathways to Further Study
Students who complete this course will qualify for direct credits/exemptions within the furniture making or cabinet making apprenticeships (Certificate III). In addition to this, successful students receive a reduction in the duration of their apprenticeship.

Career Opportunities
Graduates of this course may gain employment as an apprentice in the furniture making/cabinet making industry - either in the free standing furniture or flat panel sectors (cabinet making - kitchens, bathrooms etc) .
Completion of this pre-apprenticeship shortens the duration of the apprenticeship by up to one year.
Entrance Requirements
Applicants are required to attend an interview with the dpeartment prior to enrolment.
