This Certificate II in Spoken and Written English is an ESL course offered through the Youth Unit's Young Adult Migrant Education Courses (YAMEC).

This pre-intermediate course is for young adults from non-English speaking backgrounds between 15 to 26 years old who have disrupted or incomplete education. The course aims to develop English language, numeracy and study Skills for entry into study in more advanced ESL or VCAL courses.

Improve your reading, writing and spoken English, and your understanding of Australian culture, current affairs and government, while meeting other young migrants and Australians from non-English speaking backgrounds. Improving your English will make it easier to deal with government departments like Immigration and Centrelink, do the banking or shopping, visit the doctor, or access community services and groups.

NMIT also offers the Certificate II in Spoken and Written English through the Foundation Studies Department.

Students are advised to complete an English and study skills certificate IV before going on to mainstream study.

Career Opportunities

Students who achieve a Certificate II in Spoken and Written English are able to move to the Certificate III in Spoken and Written English or ESL VCAL to continue their English language and study skills training, which can assist them towards their goal of work, further education or vocational training.

All applicants are interviewed before placement in the program.

Materials

A range of materials and equipment is used during the course and students are provided with worksheets during classes. Students also have access to a range of facilities and services to assist with their learning and well being while at TAFE, including computer and language labs, vocational counselling, library facilities and sport and recreation facilities.

The student tuition fee is indicative only and subject to change given individual circumstances at enrolment. Additional fees may apply such services and amenities fees.
