This course is designed to train registered apprentices in the specific skills required for competence within the furniture manufacture and cabinet making industry.

Students undertake training in various skill areas which include but are not limited to occupational health and safety, interpretation of plans and documentation, safe operation of hand tools, power tools and woodworking machinery, furniture construction techniques, Computer Aided Drafting, CNC technology, furniture polishing (spray gun) and installation techniques.

Pathways to Further Study

Students who have completed their Cert. III training may choose to do further post-apprenticeship studies in associated fields.

Career Opportunities

Apprentices who complete training and the on-the-job requirements will become qualified trades persons.

Trades people can gain employment in a variety of sectors within the furnishing industry, including free standing furniture and built-in furniture (Kitchens, bathrooms etc)

Qualified Cabinet makers may also gain employment in related industries such as Shop fitting or Caravan manufacturing.

Entrance Requirements

Applicants must be employed and registered as an apprentice in this qualification.

Various forms of assessment may be used including: Workbook activities, Oral & written questions, Observation and Demonstration, Practical tasks and projects.
