Trainees are employed by bricklayers and train on-site with their employer and off-site with a Registered Training Organisation e.g. NMIT.

Trainees work on full size projects of varying degrees at NMIT's specially designed facilities. Training identifies and underpins the underlying requirements to:

  • collect, analyse and organise information
  • communicate ideas and information
  • plan and organise activities
  • work with others and in teams
  • use mathematical ideas and techniques
  • solve problems
  • use technology required within the industry.


All core units plus two electives must be satisfactorily passed to complete the course.

Trainees may enter the Certificate IV in Building Construction to enhance their skills as a supervisor or toward obtaining builders registration.
