The Certificate III in Horticultue (Parks and Gardens) is offered in two streams - as an apprenticeship and as a general Certificate III. This course provides the training component for the Parks and Gardens apprenticeship. The non-apprenticeship stream caters for all who have an interest in horticulture, more specifically those who are working in or are interested in employment in the parks and gardens/garden management areas of horticulture. The training provided has a strong practical focus and areas of study include: plant identification, garden establishment and maintenance, landscape construction, soils and plant nutrition, plant protection, computers and garden design.

Students at NMIT's Fairfield campus will be trained in purpose-built facilities, which include specialist propagation facilities, state-of-the-art greenhouse, plant tissue culture laboratory, computer laboratory, a well-resourced library and extensive gardens for practical work.
