This course has been developed in consultation with industry to give participants the skills and knowledge required to gain employment in a retail nursery. This course will provide training in a range of skills specifically suited to the retail nursery environment. Students will complete part of their training as a placement in the retail nursery industry.

Students at NMIT's Fairfield campus will be trained in a commercial production and retail nursery. Facilities include specialist propagation facilities, state-of-the-art greenhouse, potting shed, plant tissue culture laboratory, computer laboratory and a well-resourced library.

These qualifications may lead to further study at Certificate IV in Horticulture (Nursery) or other streams, and then into Diploma of Horticulture (Nursery) or other streams.

The certificate III qualification is integrated in the delivery of the Diploma of Horticulture and meets the academic requirements of the occupation- Certificate III in Horticulture RTF30103

A competency based course assessment is based on student's abilities to achieve unit outcomes. There is the opportunity for workplace delivery and assessment of competencies. Assessment methods include: Demonstration of skills, Tests and assignments, Folios, Oral activities, Third party reports.
