Kick-start your career in international business

Graduates of NMIT’s Certificate III in International Trade have a high rate of employment due to the practical nature of the course and the training in EDI software. You will be highly employable in administrative roles in any business with an import/export function will be sought after as entry level managers by any firm that is internationally active and the institutions they collaborate with, including exporters, global consumers, manufacturers, financial service providers and travel and tourism operators.

Once completed, students can go on to further study with NMIT's Certificate IV in International TradeDiploma of International Business, Advanced Diploma of International Business and a Bachelor of Business.

Get a practical qualification industry prefers

NMIT’s industry insights and connections ensure students acquire current industry skills and training including industry standard EDI software allowing students to move straight into employment after completion of the course.

Working in a freight forwarding industry is the emphasis of NMIT's Certificate III in International Trade. Students cover the essentials of supply chain management, import/export documentation using EDI software (industry standard) and an introduction to the requirements of the Australian Customs Service. Understanding freight forwarding tasks is essential for all importers and exporters of goods.

The Diploma of International Business and Advanced Diploma of International Business may be used for entrance into an associate degree or degree course in the higher education sector. Entrance requirements vary with course and university.

Entrance Requirements

Local Students:

There are no formal entrance requirements to these courses. Applicants must be able to demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Department that they are capable of completing the course having regard to the relevant competency levels in the training documents.

International Students:

Successful completion of studies equivalent to Australian Year 12 education or relevant work experience. IELTS score of 5.5 or higher. Mature Age students are encouraged to apply.

Various forms of assessment may be used including: classroom testing, assignments, presentations, group work, case studies, industry or simulated industry practicum.
