This course provides the training for people who have qualified in Landscape or equivalent. The training has a large emphasis on design and business. Ideal for those wishing to be involved in landscape design & construction management.

Students at NMIT's Fairfield campus will be trained in a purpose built, spacious landscaping facility. In addition, students have access to a plant identification laboratory; irrigation training facilities, soils laboratory and computer laboratory with the latest versions of Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) software.

Units offered cover supervision and design competencies.

Assessment Methods
A competency based course assessment is based on the student's abilities to achieve unit outcomes. There is the opportunity for workplace delivery and assessment of competencies.

  • Tests and assignments
  • Folios and log books
  • Oral activities
  • Third party reports.


The Certificate IV in Applied Design (Landscape) requires successful completion of 11 units of competency.

Once the training component has been successfully completed, an application for certificate must be lodged for the certificate to be issued.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Cert IV in Applied Design (Landscape) may gain employment as a landscape designer, landscape manager/site foreman, run a business or work in landscape/horticulture consultancy.

Entrance Requirements

Successful completion of the Certificate III in Horticulture (Landscape) RTF 30403 or equivalent training and experience.
