This course is designed to develop the knowledge and skills required for the selection and co-ordination of interior furnishings and finishes in the decoration of domestic and commercial interiors.

Participants will also gain the skills to work with clients or customers to recommend interior decoration products and services and the skills required to present ideas.

Graduates may seek entry and advanced standing into degree courses in Interior Design offered by universities.

Graduates who successfully complete this course may continue studies with NMIT in the second year of the Interiors program, the Diploma of Interior Design and Decoration.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of this course may gain employment as assistant decoration consultants in specialised wholesale or retail outlets or with independent interior decoration/design consultancies.

Entrance Requirements

Local Students:

Satisfactory completion of VCE, Year 12 or mature age with evidence of ability to meet the demands of the course. Students seeking entry to the course should have a demonstrated interest in the vocational area and demonstrated ability in artistic disciplines (drawing for example). Applicants are required to attend an initial interview and a folio is preferred.

International Students:

Satisfactory completion of VCE, Year 12 or mature age with evidence of ability to meet the demands of the course.
