The Certificate IV in Photoimaging is an embedded exit point at the first year of the Diploma of Photoimaging.

This course provides practical training for individuals who wish to pursue a career in professional photography.

Students gain practical experience in the many photographic imaging techniques and practices (both analogue and digital). Emphasis on industry involvement and extracurricular projects with industry specialists provides students with the best opportunities for success.

Our photoimaging courses are recognised by various government departments and photographic businesses as an approved course of study. In some cases the award is a requirement for graded positions.

The course is also recognised by the Australian Institute of Professional Photography, and graduates may be granted membership to this organisation.

The knowledge and experience gained gives opportunities to be either self employed freelance or employed as photographic assistants/technicians or paraprofessionals in commercial, advertising, fashion, food, wedding, portrait, digital imaging, editorial & press, sports, travel, stock library, illustrative, professional laboratory and scientific & technical photography.

Opportunities exist both within the private sector and various government departments.

Entrance Requirements

Local Students:

Successful completion of Year 12 or an equivalent level of study. There are no pre-requisites for mature age applicants. Applicants will be required to present a folio of work at an interview. Following the VTAC application period, late applications will be accepted directly through the Visual Arts department. Full-time, timely applications should be submitted via VTAC.

International Students:

Successful completion of studies equivalent to Australian Year 12 education or relevant employment experience. IELTS score of 5.5 or higher. Mature aged applicants are encouraged to apply. Applicants in Australia are requried to attend an interview and present a folio. Applicants applying from overseas are required to present a folio. Please contact the International Office for more information on folio preparation.

Assessment Methods

Assessment is by a combination of work based projects and course based assignments.

Materials

Students must pay a AU$360 materials and membership levy upfront at the start of the course. Throughout the course, students are expected to supply additional materials as required.

The student tuition fee is indicative only and subject to change given individual circumstances at enrolment. Additional fees may apply such services and amenities fees.
