About the program
This program provides you with a generalist qualification to work in the community services sector at practitioner or team leader level. In this program you will develop the skills and knowledge to provide inclusive, non-judgemental services and programs to a broad range of client groups in our community.
What can I do with my qualification?
The Diploma of Community Welfare Work qualifies you to work in a diverse range of government and non-government organisations supporting and advocating for individuals and groups of people. Jobs students and graduates of the program are employed in include:

About the staff
The program is delivered by staff with many years experience in the community sector in a variety of government and non government agencies.
Course Duration
You will be studying at NMIT for one afternoon and evening per week for three years. Classes are scheduled from 2pm to 8.30 pm
Application Procedure
Before you can apply you must attend a compulsory information session. Session dates can be obtained by contacting Health and Community Studies. You will be given an application form at the information session which you will submit to the Health and Community Studies Department.
If you meet the selection criteria you will be invited to attend an interview at NMIT.

If you have successfully completed the program you are encouraged to apply to tertiary institutions that offer courses in the human services/social welfare areas. There are a number of formal articulation agreements in place between NMIT and local universities. Please contact the Health and Community Studies Department for details.

Entrance Requirements
Applicants must be aged at least 20 at the commencement of the course and are required to have completed at least one year paid or voluntary welfare-related work for part-time study.
Applicants who meet the selection criteria will be interviewed.

Assessment Methods
You will be assessed in a variety of ways both in the classroom and in the workplace. Assessments include: Demonstration of tasks/techniques, Group activities, In class activities, Written work, Work based projects, Group presentations, Research projects.
