This distinctive course enables students to achieve technical excellence in electronics and communications engineering. In the first year, students learn the high level technical skills required to install, repair and maintain business equipment such as photocopiers, printer and fax machines. The second years learn the advanced skills for the maintenance of electronic GPS systems, motor control systems for electric vehicles. This qualification meets the academic requirements of the occupation Business Machine Mechanic (ASCO Code 4315-13).

Year 1

  • Certificate III in Business Equipment

  • Practice to dismantle, assemble and fabricate electronic components
  • Use drawings, diagrams, schedules and manuals
  • Carry out basic repairs to electronic apparatus by replacement of components
  • Troubleshoot DC power supplies with single phase input
  • Carry out repairs of predictable faults in general electronic equipment
  • Find and repair faults in high volume office equipment

Year 2

  • Diploma of Electronics and Communications Engineering
  • Conduct functional and quality tests on assembled electronic apparatus
  • Participate in business equipment work and competency development activities
  • Provide basic instruction in the use of electrotechnology apparatus
