The Diploma of Graphic Design trains students to become skilled graphic designers at the highest level.

Students are instructed in the use of current computer-based graphic design and web media software in conjunction with both print and online production technology. This is complemented by a sound foundation program in traditional design, typography and graphic design skills.

Career Opportunities

Excellent employment opportunities exist for the successful graduates of this course. Since 1980, this course has maintained a record of high employment for all second year students.

Prospective employers include advertising agencies, large and small design studios, advertising departments of large retail companies, packaging and publishing companies (newspapers, magazines and books), tradehouses (pre-press and large printing firms), as well as multimedia studios.

Graduates will work as support staff in advertising agencies, art and design studios and pre-press print industries.

The content of this course enables graduates to obtain employment throughout the range of graphic design industries.

Entrance Requirements

Local Students:

Applicants must have completed Year 12 (including English). Mature age students who have not met this requirement are also encouraged to apply. Generally, applicants will need to sit for a test and present for an interview. Applicants are advised to include a selected range of design and practical work in their folio. These may include technical and product drawings, illustrations, layouts and sketches. Further details of entry requirements may be obtained on application to the department.

International Students:

Australian Year 12 (or recognised equivalent) or relevant work experience. IELTS 5.5 or higher(or recognised equivalents). Mature Age. A recent portfolio relevant to course preference must accompany application.
