This VCAL course is offered through the Youth Unit's Young Adult Migrant Education Courses (YAMEC).
The VCAL ESL YAMEC program is offered at Foundation and Intermediate level and combines an accredited Certificate II in ESL (21932VIC) with VCAL modules and community projects.
VCAL is an accredited senior secondary school completion certificate.
With a focus on improving language, literacy and employability skills, the students engage in projects and courses that also increase leadership skills, knowledge of mainstream society, career options and employment readiness. It is a first step in TAFE, leading to education/vocational pathways to further academic or vocational study, new apprenticeships, traineeships and/or employment.
This VCAL Foundation course is for young adults from non-English speaking backgrounds between 15 to 26 years old who have disrupted or incomplete education. The course aims to develop English language, numeracy, personal development, employability and study skills.

Career Opportunities
Students who achieve a VCAL Certificate at Foundation level are able to move to a VCAL Intermediate course, a pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeship, a VET certificate or employment.
Entrance Requirements
Students must be 15 - 26 years old and have not completed Year 12. Applicants will be interviewed. Enrolments will be taken in November, December and January.

Assessment Methods
Assessment is on going and can occur at any time during the program. Assessment methods may include: a portfolio of accumulated evidence; teacher observation and/or checklists; evidence gained through projects or program participation; awards from recognised programs; self assessment inventories; oral and written work.

Material fee applies. Students need to supply basic stationery requirements. Some equipment may need to be purchased for industry specific modules.
