Soon after the fires, NMIT's Faculty of Building and Construction came up with the idea of constructing 12 bathroom laundry facilities to donate to the bushfire victims trying to re-establish themselves in the Kinglake area.

The Hairdressing students are required to prepare and develop a hair show, incorporating the show and preparing models for presentation. In second semester the event will be run in conjunction with NMIT Events and Industry representatives will also be invited. NMIT apprentice knocks up MBAV Apprentice of the Year Award

Nominated for the excellent results and character shown throughout his apprenticeship, Alex Lockhart was awarded best apprentice (joinery) in each of his 3 years at NMIT at the Master Builders Association of Victoria's awards night on 14 May 2009.
In 2008 he won Best Overall Apprentice on the Faculty of Building and Construction. He won the regoinal world skills comp in Detailed Joinery in Melbourne metro in 2007, came 6th in the Nationals in 2008 and is keen to have another go this year.
Alex is known as one of the most talented apprentices NMIT to undertake the Off Site Construction course and his employer Aaron Back from Rimlar Staircases in East Keilor is very proud of his achievements.
