Faculty of Engineering Awards Night
The Faculty of Engineering annual Awards Night recognises the outstanding achievements of students within the Pre-Apprenticeship, Apprenticeship, Post Trade, Diploma and Advanced Diploma programs conducted by the Faculty in 2008.

There will be 37 training awards presented on the night along with 8 Study Grant acknowledgements.

The recipients will come from the Jewellery, Locksmithing, Electrical, Light and Heavy Fabrication, Fitting and Machining, Power Industry and Sustainable Energy training programs and receive institute certificates and prizes donated by industry exceeding $16,000 in value.

52 First and second year Dual Diploma Event Management students will be attending the International Special Events Society (ISES) Connects Student Seminar on Thursday 14th May 2009. There will be over 500 students from all around Victoria attending this conference at which 12 professional speakers will be presenting in the areas of hospitality, events and tourism. The Bachelor of Illustration are having a Poster Exhibition @ B-Space Gallery, Fairfield Campus, Yarra Bend Road Fairfield in Building B. The Bachelor of Australian Popular Music are hosting a music improvisation master class with a visiting UK Musician and have engaged the services of the Bachelor of Illustration students to create posters.

The Exhibition of posters will be displayed within B-Space Gallery @ NMIT's Fairfield Campus between May 18th May - Friday 5th June 2009. Innovation Victoria (INNOVIC) Next Big Thing Award
Locksmithing division staff members Ray Ng and Max Cherry have been announced as 2009 finalists of Innovation Victoria (INNOVIC) Next Big Thing Award. Ray and Max have developed the Raymax lock system that provides a biometric interface between the user and a conventional mechanical lock using finger prints for operation. The 25 finalists were selected from nearly 300 applications, and as finalists Ray and Max have won the right to display their innovation at the Melbourne Museum. The exhibition opens on the 30th May and closes on the 12th July and is free to attend. The exhibition was viewed by over 76,000 people in 2008.
