Les Zigomanis
"The Professional Writing and Editing course helped me develop the tools and practices to become an editor in the publishing industry. It also helped sharpen my writing skills, and educated me about writing journals and opportunities which I never previously knew existed. As a course, it was invaluable both for my aspirations as a writer, and my ambitions to pursue (and fulfill) a career as an editor."
Les was the NMIT outstanding vocational student of the year for 2009 and winner of the Creative Arts Industry Board Victorian student of the year SpART award.
Tira Burgess
Hello, my name is Tira Burgess and I was a full time student at NMIT in Greensborough studying first the Certificate IV in Professional Writing and Editing in 2008 and then the Diploma in 2009.
Though Professional Writing and Editing did not appeal to me at first, after attending classes on campus, I soon found the things I was learning highly interesting, informative and recommendable. With some of my teachers being published authors and others highly qualified in other specific learning areas, I was guaranteed to be taught by the best people the writing industry had to offer.
Students undertaking this course are exposed to industry professionals hence are able to make lasting contacts which will prove very helpful when walking into the workforce.
I have graduated from NMIT with an intense sound knowledge of all things related to the areas of publishing, editing and freelance. Professional Writing and Editing teaches all kinds of different streams such as fiction, nonfiction, publishing and editing.
Most Year 12s assume they need a grand ENTER score to get into university – but they don’t. I’m just about to commence a Bachelor in Communication (Journalism) and it would not have been possible without first acquiring much-needed skills attained by studying Professional Writing and Editing.
