Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE (NMIT) offers you the opportunity to undertake the Introduction to Aquaculture course on a part-time basis.

The course is structured for people who are interested in utilising small areas of land for a second income or those that are interested in the aquaculture sector in general.

Classe dates are to be advised for 2008, incorporating 14 sessions that run on Tuesday nights from 6pm - 9pm. In addition, there will be three Saturday excursions on dates to be announced.

Several types of culture systems will be explored, including recirculation systems, ponds and flow through systems. Both freshwater and saltwater establishments, and several types of culture species (including finfish, molluscs and crustaceans) will be considered in detail.

This course is composed of competencies from the Seafood Industry Training Package (SF104) and accrue towards a nationally recognised qualification in Seafood (eg. Certificate III).

The proposed timetable is not rigid and will incorporate flexibility depending on class progress.

Assessment will be based on two written work requirements as well as continual assessment of practical work and class participation.
