NMIT is an approved testing centre for the Victoria Police Education Entrance Examination, which is the first step in pursuing a career with Victoria Police.

Candidates must successfully complete all components of the examination prior to lodging an application with Victoria Police. See also the Victoria Police Occupational Preparatory Course.

Candidate Eligibility: Applicants who wish to be appointed to Victoria Police must meet the following requirements:

  • be of good character and reputation
  • be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia or entitle to this status under Commonwealth Law
  • have the mental capacity and physical fitness to be able to perform the duties of a member of the force and who has completed a medical examination in accordance with standards prescribed by the Chief Commissioner of Police
  • have passed the Victoria Police Education Entrance Examination, agility/coordination test, selection panel interview, and completed psychological screening
  • if under 21 years of age, must have successfully completed the Victorian Certificate of Education or an interstate equivalent

If you have any prior convictions including some traffic offences or believe you may not meet the medical requirements please contact the Victoria Police Recruiting Office on 13 20 01 before applying to sit the education entrance examination.

There is no minimum or maximum age limit, however applicants must have a current Victorian manual drivers licence prior to induction into the Academy.

The examination consists of five components:

  • spelling and comprehension
  • mathematics
  • reasoning ability
  • English skills
  • a writing task

Unsuccessful Candidates: Candidates must initially sit all components. If you are unsuccessful on any of the components you can re-sit the individual component/s within 12 months. Candidates unsuccessful in any second sitting are not permitted to re-sit again for at least 12 months from the date of the first sitting. In this situation, candidates are required to sit the entire five tests again.

  • Victoria Police Education Entrance Examination: $90
  • Re-sit Test: $35 per re-sit component (no more than $90)
  • All applications must be received by the institute two weeks before the closing-off date*
  • No refunds
  • No transfers
