How to Start Your Own Building Business
This Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) has been designed to show you How to Start Your Own Building Business and prepare you for the Building Practitioners Board registration - an important first step towards allowing you to work in the building industry as a subcontractor. This course is is offered through the Building Structures and Services department. NMIT also offers a Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building), as well as a Builders Registration Course for the MBAV through the Design Drafting and Interior Fittings Department.

Builders Registration Course (MBAV)
NMIT runs this Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) as the Builders Registration Course for the Master Builders Association of Victoria (MBAV). The course offers a range of subjects to prepare participants to apply to the Building Practitioners Board for registration as a Domestic Building Practitioner.

Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building)

Design Drafting and Interior Fittings Department
This course is designed to meet the needs of builders and managers of small to medium building businesses. Learn to perform a range of functions from preparing building sketches to managing small business finances. Despite the economic downturn, the building and construction industry continues to thrive.

Diploma of Building and Construction (Building)

The Diploma focuses on project management in medium-rise building and construction projects. Learn how to coordinate the construction of a building. You’ll be taught how to take responsibility for job completion, selecting contractors, overseeing the work and its quality and liaising with clients.

Diploma of Building Surveying

With this qualification you will be able to work in the building and construction industry as a building inspector or surveyor. You will work on low-rise residential buildings. Learn about the principles, legislation and regulations involved in the building and construction industry. The course has a strong focus on building technology.

Advanced Diploma of Building Surveying

This course further advances the knowledge gained in the Diploma of Building Surveying. Develop the expertise to perform surveys on buildings up to three storeys high, and learn skills such as applying geomechanical design principles and producing working drawings

Certificate II in Construction Pathways

Run at our Heidelberg campus, the Certificate II in Construction Pathways offers pathways to NMIT's Carpentry, Joinery and Shopfitting and Building courses with direct credits on completion towards apprenticeship training in the Construction training package. An ideal combination of practical projects, hands-on experience and online assessments round out this course as the beginning to a career as an all round tradesman.
