Certificate II in Engineering

Mechanical
This program comprises the Mechanical stream for the Certificate II in Engineering. Do you like working with your hands and making mechanical parts? Gain skills and experience with machines and equipment for cutting, grinding and turning operations as well as basic welding and thermal cutting processes throughout this pre-apprenticeship. There is high industry demand for highly skilled fitting and machining, fitting and turning, welding and fabricating. Certificate II in Engineering

Locksmithing
This program comprises the Locksmithing stream for the Certificate II in Engineering. Prepares students for work in the locksmithing industry. Students who continue on to apprenticeship studies after completing the certificate II will have the relevant units credited to their apprenticeship. NMIT also offers other streams for the Certificate II in Engineering through the Mechanical Manufacturing Department.

Fabrication
Get the qualification you need to secure a job in metal trades - comprising the Fabrication stream of the Certificate II in Engineering. Working in the metal trades requires a set of skills quite different to your favourite heavy metal band! NMIT’s Certificate II in Engineering will give you preparatory skills and knowledge in basic metal fabrication and welding processes required in the fabrication industry.

Certificate IV in Engineering

Fabrication
This program comprises the Fabrication stream of the Certificate IV in Engineering. Advance your skills in the fabrication trade - already working in the metal trades and want to go to the next level? This post-trade course will enhance your existing skills and knowledge through three fabrications streams: light, heavy and welding. Depending on your current level of competency, you may have to complete some core units to get to the more advanced units of this course - we’ll help you get there.

Fluid Power
This program comprises the Fluid Power stream of the Certificate IV in Engineering. Are you ready for the next level in manufacturing and servicing fluid power systems? Get ready for a promotion or raise your earning potential! If you’ve completed the Certificate III in Engineering (Mechanical Trade) or already working in manufacturing and servicing of hydraulic and pneumatic circuits – you can go on to enhance your skills in the design, manufacture and maintenance of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Computer Numerical Control (CNC)
This program comprises the Computer Numerical Control (CNC) stream of the Certificate IV in Engineering. Are you ready for the next level in CNC processes and manufacturing? Light Fabrication

This program comprises the Light Fabrication stream of the Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade. Get the skills you need for the job - master all sheet metal working techniques throughout this apprenticeship you can apply straight on-the-job. Traditionally known as sheet metal work, light fabrication will give you the skills to perform tasks ranging from manual metal arc welding (MIG) and geometric development to drawing interpretation.

Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade

Heavy Fabrication
This program comprises the Heavy Fabrication stream of the Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade. Get the skills you need for the job - master all heavy fabrication techniques throughout this apprenticeship you can apply straight on-the-job. Traditionally known as boiler making, heavy fabrication will give you the skills to work with heavy gauge metal parts to make and fix containers that get put under pressure like boilers and storage tanks.

Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade

Provides apprentices with a high level of basic and advanced skills in fitting and machining which they can build on through on-the-job training, including marking out, use of hand tools, drawing, turning, milling and grinding. NMIT also offers the Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade to non-industry and international students through the Mechanical Manufacturing Department.

The program features the Jewellery Centre, a professional jewellery school where master craftsmen and recognised experts pass on their knowledge. Security Engineering (Locksmithing)
This program comprises the Security Engineering (Locksmithing) stream of the Diploma of Engineering Technology. Provides you with extensive training in security technology. Areas of study include client relationships, power tools/hand held, key production, lock mechanisms, basic machining processes, basic fabrication techniques, automotive security systems, mechanical access control systems, security containers and mechanical security for buildings. NMIT also offers other streams of the Diploma of Engineering Technology through the Mechanical Manufacturing Department.
