Vocational Pathways Department
This Certificate III in ESL (Access) is offered through the Vocational Pathways Department. This intermediate level course is for adults of non-English speaking background. Develop your English skills to help with everyday life. Gain the skills to enter further study in more advanced ESL courses, and improve your employment opportunities. NMIT also offers the Certificate III in ESL (Access) through the Foundation Studies Department.

Introduction to Trade Skills ESL (VCAL YAMEC)

The Introduction to Trade Skills ESL program is a six-month VCAL course offered through the Youth Unit's Young Adult Migrant Education Courses (YAMEC). The program prepares students for further training or employment in the building and construction industry. It includes trade workshop classes and industry visits and all students will have the opportunity to get their General Construction Induction Card (White Card). NMIT also offers a range of VCAL programs through the Youth Unit.

Certificate III in Education Support

This course qualifies you to works as a teacher aide or education support worker as well as offering English language support. This is a pathway to employment where your bilingual skills would be highly valued in our multi-cultural classrooms. This program comprises the Certificate III in Education Support offered in conjunction with modules from the English for Teacher Aide stream of the Certificate III in ESL (Employment).

It is a program for adults of non-English speaking background at intermediate level. The program content is dependent on the needs of students. NMIT also offers the Certificate III in ESL (Access) through the Vocational Pathways Department.

Certificate IV in ESL (Access)

Part-Time Evening course
This part time evening course comprises of three nationally recognised modules offered through the Vocational Pathways Department. Successful completion of these modules will gain you credit towards achieving the Certificate IV in ESL (Access). If your English language and literacy skills are at upper immediate to advanced level, you can develop them further. Learn skills that will help you in the workplace, study and training, and the community.

English for Aged Care
This program comprises the English for Aged Care stream of the Certificate II in ESL (Employment). The Certificate II in ESL Employment is a one year accredited English language course that will help students to improve their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. Tasks and activities will be based around content from the Certificate III in Aged Care. The Vocational Pathways Department also offers other ESL streams of the Certificate III in ESL (Employment).

Foundation Studies Department
This Certificate II in ESL (Employment) is offered through the Foundation Studies Department and as part of some courses in the Vocational Pathways Department. This pre-intermediate level course is for adults of non-English speaking backgrounds. Further your English skills to communicate the essential information required for daily communication, with a specific focus on the workplace and gaining employment. NMIT offers other ESL courses through the Vocational Pathways Department and the ESL division of the Youth Unit.

Certificate III in ESL (Employment)

English for Child Care
This program comprises the English for Child Care stream of the Certificate III in ESL (Employment). This English language course is designed for students who want to work in the child care industry, and will help improve their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills while training to work in child care. Participants study the Certificate III in ESL (Employment) for three days a week and one day a week study selected modules from the Certificate III in Children’s Services.

English for Bilingual Health and Community Work
This program comprises the English for Bilingual Health and Community Work stream of the Certificate III in ESL (Employment). The course comprises the Certificate III in ESL (Employment) and Certificate II in Community Services. Gain skills and knowledge in intermediate English language, and workplace skills relevant to the health and community services sector. The course includes work placement in a health or community organisation. The Vocational Pathways Department also offers other ESL streams of the Certificate III in ESL (Employment).

English for Hospitality
This program comprises the English for Hospitality stream of the Certificate III in ESL (Employment). If you would like a career in hospitality, concentrating on the area of cookery, this course can give you the skills you need. This English language course also involves 7 hours per week of practical kitchen work, plus 3 hours per week of hospitality theory. Employment opportunities are excellent, and may lead to work in hospitals, nursing homes, hotels or restaurants. The Vocational Pathways Department also offers other ESL streams of the Certificate III in ESL (Employment).

English for Teacher Aide

This course offers English language support and also qualifies you to work as a teacher aide or education support worker. This is a pathaway to employment where your bilingual sills would be highly valued in our multi-cultural classrooms. On successful completion of the course you will obtain the Certificate III in Education Support, together with modules from the Certificate III in ESL (Employment).

Certificate IV in ESL (Employment/Professional)

Overseas Qualified Professionals (OQP) Victoria
The Certificate IV in ESL (Employment/ Professional) is offered through the Vocational Pathways Department’s Overseas Qualified Professionals (OQP) Victoria program. This course provides overseas qualified professional people with an introduction to the Australian workplace and labour market, and the opportunity to undertake an industry placement.

Certificate III in ESL (Further Study)

This Certificate III in ESL (Further Study) is offered through the Vocational Pathways Department and is taken in conjunction with the Certificate II in General Education for Adults (CGEA). You will benefit from this course if you are an adult of non-English speaking background and at an intermediate level of English.

Certificate IV in ESL (Further Study)

The Certificate IV in ESL (Further Study) is offered through the Vocational Pathways Department. The Certificate IV in ESL (Further Study) is taken in conjunction with modules from the Certificate III in General Education for Adults (CGEA). You will want to do this course if your English language and literacy skills are at upper immediate to advanced level and you wish to develop them further. Learn skills that will help you in the workplace, study and training, and the community.

VCAL ESL YAMEC

The VCAL ESL YAMEC course is offered through the Youth Unit's Young Adult Migrant Education Course (YAMEC). VCAL is an accredited senior secondary school completion certificate. This program is designed for young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds who have not completed secondary school and who need to develop their English, numeracy and communication skills in order to go on to further study, an apprenticeship or employment. NMIT also offers other VCAL programs through the Youth Unit
