Certificate III in Aged Care

NMIT will prepare you to be able to work in aged care facilities, supported residential services and day care centres. You will gain an understanding of the aged care sector, skills for assisting older people with daily living, communicating with people with dementia, knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety and skills for culturally sensitive and inclusive practice. In 2012, we offer an opportunity for students to obtain the Certificate III in Home and Community Care by undertaking two extra units of competency in conjunction with the Certificate III in Aged Care.

Certificate III in Beauty Services

Develop the skills to gain employment in a beauty salon, and to perform a range of tasks such as ear piercing, lash brow treatments, manicure and pedicure, as well as customer service and retail skills. The career possibilities can only continue to grow in this ever-expanding and technologically advancing industry

Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy

Designed to provide first-line management skills to those coordinating or managing beauty salons or beauty departments, this course gives you the skills to perform a range of functions from body treatments to epilation to advanced facial treatments. Career possibilities continue to grow in this ever-expanding and technologically advancing industry.

Diploma of Beauty Therapy

The Diploma of Beauty Therapy covers all beauty services plus permanent hair removal (electrolysis), diathermy, micro-dermabrasion to spa therapies, are included. With this qualification, you can work in beauty salons, day spas and cruise ships, as well as covering all the managerial skills you need to run a beauty salon.

Certificate IV in Community Services Work

If you find helping disadvantaged people rewarding and satisfying, NMIT’s community services course will appeal to you. Once trained, you could work in community-based organisations, and residential, youth or outreach services. Skills covered include: young people at risk, and alcohol and drug issues.

Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management

If you care about environmental issues and the conservation of our natural resources, this course will develop your knowledge of bushland regeneration and revegetation. You will learn skills including how to apply approaches to restoration, conservation and management of natural areas, parks and reserves. You will also be able to undertake an Australian apprenticeship for this course.

Certificate IV in Design

The Certificate IV is an entry level course for people who have a passion and flair for design. The course investigates creative areas such as product design, graphic design, illustration, digital imaging, animation, fashion design, web design, photography and painting.

Certificate III in Driving Operations

Develop your understanding of road transport logistics, such as how to load and unload vehicles and organise work operations. NMIT has one of Australia’s best industrial training facilities, offering a range of training packages.

Certificate II in Food Processing

Provides trainees with skills and knowledge for employment under limited supervision as a production operator in a food-processing factory, or as an advanced operator or team leader/leading hand in a food-processing company.

Certificate III in Food Processing

Provides you with the chance to train as a production operator or team leader/leading hand for employment in a food processing company. NMIT food processing students benefit from a modener meat and fish processing facility at our Epping campus.

Certificate II in Food Processing (Wine)

This program covers a wide range of topics that help students develop knowledge in theoretical and practical aspects of daily vineyard operations. NMIT offers this course in a variety of specialist streams through the Agriculture and Animal Science Department.

Certificate III in Food Processing (Wine)

This program comprises a wide range of topics that help students develop knowledge in theoretical and practical aspects of daily vineyard operations. Students train at the work enterprise site with additional online tutorial support. NMIT offers this course in a variety of specialist streams through the Agriculture and Animal Science Department.

Certificate III in Health Services Assistance

Health services assistants provide assistance to professionals and work with clients while supervised. You could work in hospitals or community health facilities or for agencies that supply support services staff. Skills and knowledge learnt include: infection control and transporting patients.

Certificate III in Home and Community Care

The Home and Community Care training program develops multi-skilled workers for a broad range of services provided to frail older people and younger people with disabilities (and their families) living in the community. In 2012, we offer an opportunity for students to attain the Certificate III in Home and Community Care by undertaking two extra units of competency in conjunction with the Certificate III in Aged Care.

Certificate II in Horticulture (Arboriculture)

If you care about protecting our trees, NMIT’s Certificate II in Horticulture (Aboriculture) is perfect. Become an arborist, working in parks, gardens and urban planning.

Certificate III in Horticulture (Arboriculture)

Provides practical training in the skills and knowledge essential for maintenance and management of trees. Features a strong focus on the development of practical skills, and many tree work projects are carried out. Study includes tree climbing, pruning, transplanting and removal, tree health, and provision of advice on trees.

Certificate II in Hospitality

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in a range of activities and functions requiring basic operational knowledge and limited practical skills in a defined context. Work would be undertaken in various hospitality settings, such as restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops.

Certificate III in Hospitality

Develops hospitality operational skills. Focuses on practical skills in food and beverage, housekeeping and front office area. Certificate IV in Hospitality

Aims to develop hospitality operational skills and introduce basic management skills. Includes practical skills training and basic financial and management training. Features excellent training facilities including a fully functional restaurant.

Certificate III in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery)

Food is a necessity of life, and people with skills in commercial cookery can work anywhere from the local pub to top international restaurants. Designed for applicants wanting skills to meet the demands of the culinary industry. All modules are nationally accredited.

Certificate IV in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery)

NMIT’s Certificate IV in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery) course builds on the skills that chefs have already gained in the Certificate III in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery). The course will develop an understanding of business operations with an emphasis on increasing the knowledge and skills required for supervisory and management roles.

Certificate II in Hospitality (Kitchen Operations)

Designed for people seeking a career in Hospitality, concentrating on cookery. Suitable if you’re currently working in the industry and want formal qualifications. Provides you with knowledge and experience in practical food production. All modules are nationally recognised units of study.

Certificate III in Hospitality (Patisserie)

Designed for people employed as an apprentice pastry cook or those seeking a qualification in this field either full-time or part-time. Provides skills and knowledge for the speciality area of pastry in the culinary industry. All modules are nationally accredited.

Certificate IV in Hospitality (Patisserie)

Do you love to work with pastry? Would you like to improve your skills and knowledge and be qualified to be a supervisor or team leader? NMIT’s new Certificate IV can help you achieve this goal. NMIT has specialised staff, very experienced in patisserie work, and high-end equipment as used in the industry.

Certificate IV in Human Resources

This Certificate IV in Human Resources is offered through the Business Enterprise Centre through flexible delivery, or a blended learning model using self-directed and self-paced activities, in conjunction with an online e-learning environment, and supported by a mentor. The Certificate IV will help you gain practical knowledge applicable to a range of human resources functions such as recruitment and selection, effective team management and performance management.

Certificate III in Retail Baking - Combined

This course is designed to provide students with all the necessary skills to work as a baker in a retail or wholesale bakery, or a commercial kitchen. Learn to prepare and bake various types of bread, yeast-based products and artisan breads using different commercial machinery, as well as how to implement food and health safety policies and procedures. 

Certificate III in Road Construction and Maintenance

Covers a wide range of topics enabling students to gain and develop knowledge in both theoretical and practical aspects of road construction and maintenance in the civil construction industry. Areas of study include: small plant and equipment to underground services to earth works and road paving. Career options include: civil contractor / road crew member.

Certificate II in Seafood Industry (Aquaculture)

This qualification functions as the entry point into the aquaculture sectors of the seafood industry, and is aimed at providing participants with a variety of core skills and underpinning knowledge required to work as a field hand in the aquaculture sector. This course is offered as a traineeship only. You must be a qualified trainee to apply.

Certificate III in Seafood Industry (Aquaculture)

This qualification is aimed at providing participants with a broad range of skills and underpinning knowledge that can be adapted and transferred to new activities, and is targeted at the level of a skilled worker or leading farm hand. This course is offered as a traineeship only. You must be a qualified trainee to apply.

Certificate III in Seafood Industry (Seafood Processing)

If you have already received basic training in seafood processing, the Certificate III can qualify you to work as a supervisor, shift manage or process manager. You will be able to take responsibility for making decisions and coordinating work teams. NMIT’s Epping campus has one of Victoria's few indoor recirculating aquaculture facilities.

Certificate II in Telecommunications Cabling

Due to commence in March/April 2012, this qualification allows you to obtain the Open registration ACMA telecommunications cabling licence. Participate in the NBN optical fibre rollout - the course offers a variety of experiences including sustainable and environmental practices and procedures, customer premises cabling practices, terminating and testing extra low voltage circuits, telecommunications telephony, VOIP, as well as cabling and installation practices.

Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing

Learn the skills to perform a range of tasks for a career in veterinary nursing, including daily clinic routines, surgery preparations, radiography, dental and theatre routines. Completion of the course requires that students be employed at a veterinary nursing workplace to undertake on-the-job training.
