Introduction to Trade Skills ESL (VCAL YAMEC)
Get your English skills ready for a career in trades. If you are looking to enter the trades between 15 and 26 years of age, from a non-English speaking background, but can write and speak English and have had disrupted, incomplete or no prior education, NMIT’s Introduction to Trade Skills (VCAL) will help to prepare you for further training or employment in the building and construction industry.
VCAL (Foundation)
Get your Senior School Certificate - NMIT’s Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (Foundation) Course will give you skills in basic literacy and numeracy for you to go onto further education, training or employment.
VCAL (Intermediate)
Get your Senior School Certificate - NMIT’s Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (Intermediate) Course will give you skills in literacy and numeracy to assist you to go onto, further education, training or employment.
VCAL (Senior)
Get your Senior School Certificate - NMIT’s Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (Senior) Course will give you skills in literacy and numeracy to assist you to get into mainstream study, education or employment. You can specialise in a range of fields, such as carpentry or music or take units from business-related certificate courses.
VCAL Animal Studies
Choose to work with animals as a career - NMIT’s Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) Animal Studies Course is a dual qualification giving you a Certificate II in Animal Studies and a VCAL Certificate at Foundation, Intermediate or Senior level on completion.
VCAL Carpentry
Get your start in Carpentry - NMIT’s Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) Carpentry Course is a dual qualification giving you a Certificate II in Building and Construction (Carpentry) and a VCAL Certificate at Foundation, Intermediate or Senior level on completion.
Certificate I in Creative Industries
VCAL
Use your creativity as a career. This NMIT accredited film and radio course is tailored to young people interested in media who may have experienced homelessness or educational disadvantage. Running from Monday to Wednesday during the school term, students can remain with the course for up to 18 months with the potential to move into industry traineeships upon completion. The curriculum is focused on video production, radio broadcasting and photography. All students participate in presenting a weekly radio show for SYN 90.7 FM. As well as radio, students work on individual film and photography projects gaining hands on experience of media creation.

VCAL ESL YAMEC
Get the skills needed for a career. If you’re new to Australia, between 15 and 26, from a non-English speaking background, and have had disrupted, or incomplete education and can write and speak English, NMIT’s Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) English as a Second Language (ESL) Young Adult Migration Education Courses is the program for you. You will benefit from this program which is taught at Foundation and Intermediate level and combines an accredited Certificate II in ESL with VCAL modules and community projects.
VCAL Hospitality
This VCAL Hospitality program is offered through the Youth Unit. This program is designed for young people who have a strong desire to undertake vocational training but whose literacy/numeracy skills may not be at the required level of whose age necessitates an extended pathway. This program will provide extra support for students with their literacy/numeracy needs as well as developing their employability skills. NMIT also offers other VCAL programs through the Youth Unit.
VCAL LinkED Salvation Army
Get the skills to succeed in new career - NMIT’s Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) LinkED Salvation Army is offered in partnership with the Salvation Army/Brunswick Youth Services Program. It is designed for those 'at risk' young people who require extra assistance to restart their education. It has an emphasis on supporting students into their post-VCAL pathway.
Certificate III in Media
Start your career in media - this NMIT accredited film and radio course is tailored to young people interested in media who may have experienced homelessness or educational disadvantage. VCAL Music
Make music your future - are you interested in taking your musical skills further, but lack the skills and formal education needed for further study in music? NMIT’s Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning Music Course will give you the communication and numeracy skills needed for further study and work and is designed for young adults, 15 years onwards who have not completed year 12.
VCAL Ticket to a Trade
Work towards your future in the trades. Are you a young person interested in the trades but not sure which trade? NMIT’s Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) Ticket to a Trade is a six month program that will give you the opportunity to find out what trade you might like to undertake in the future. The program aims to enhance your communication, numeracy skills and employability skills and give you the opportunity to experiences a range of trades.
Certificate I in Vocational Preparation
Youth Unit
Get the basic skills needed to start a career - NMIT’s Certificate I in Vocational Preparation is a six month course in preparing you for work. It is suited to learners wanting a pre-apprenticeship or bridging program into further vocational training.
