Past graduates have gone on to be successful exhibiting artists. Visual Arts has two permanent galleries, at Preston and Fairfield, and students exhibit throughout the year. You will also have external industry exhibitions at the end of your second year.

Certificate IV in Photo Imaging
Get a qualification recognised as one of the best within industry - NMIT’s Certificate IV and Diploma of Photo Imaging are recognised by the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP). NMIT is a three time award winner for APPA (Australian Professional Photography Awards) Institute of the Year. You will gain practical experience in the many photographic imaging techniques and practices (both analogue and digital) currently in use.

Draw on your skills to create a career - NMIT’s Diploma of Visual Arts specialising in Illustration is a unique course providing training for the illustration industry. This course builds on the skills gained in the Certificate IV in Visual Arts. This course will help you to develop your skills through the methodical teaching of illustration techniques that includes research and concept development and rendering through to final output and production in both print and digital media. Adobe InDesign for Beginners
Adobe InDesign for Beginners is a short course ideal for people wishing to learn how to prepare digital files for self published ebooks, brochures, postcards or posters. Topics include: typography introduction, design principles, page setup for printing, text layout controls in InDesign, image types, image layout controls, using master pages, using styles, colour management, proofing, printing options and file export options.
Advanced Screen Printing for Artists
This six week certificate course is designed to develop basic skills and apply and combine a range of screen printing techniques to create your own artwork. Topics include: advanced screen printing techniques, table preparation, screen preparation, dos and don'ts, creating a multi-layered design using a range of screen print techniques, mixing/matching colours and using transparencies, learning about drop out.

This intermediate short course is designed to extend the skills and opportunities of people who have previously completed the Children's Book Illustration - Introduction course. The course explores development, book composition and text placement.

Children's books have entertained readers for centuries. This course explores the art of creating images for different types of children's picture books by exploring basic drawing tachniques, page composition and storytelling through pictures.
Digital Painting in Photoshop
This course will help teach the technical skills required when using the painting tools in Adobe Photoshop to create simple but effective digital paintings and compositions. Participants will learn to render scanned outline drawing or create digital patinings from scratch completely in Adobe Photoshop. Topics include: introduction to the painting tools in Photoshop, vector versus bitmap, using the brush tool, selection techniques, layer techniques, adding textures, scanning line art, image output.
Graphic Design - Introduction
Whether you want to produce a folio for tertiary study in Graphic Design or just wanting to learn new skills, this course provides a great Art and Design educational experience. Areas of study include: drawing/illustration, design appreciation, digital graphics.
Introduction to Screen Printing for Artists
This six week course is designed to develop basic techniques for students to create their own stencils based on original designs. Topics include: introduction to screen printing, table preparation, screen preparation, dos and don'ts, creating a simple design and cutting a stencil, mixing and matching colours, learning about drop-out.
Introduction to Drawing
Get a great introduction to basic technical and conceptual drawing skills. Explore a range of drawing techniques. You will also work with several different media, including: ink, pen, charcoal, pastel and pencil. Course work includes a series of exercises designed to develop both observational and analytical skills.
Introduction to Printmaking
This six-week certificate course is designed to develop basic skills in printmaking. Develop your confidence and gain skills using relief or intaglio print making processes. Gain an understanding of contemporary and traditional print conventions, and explore personal visual motifs to produce a body of limited edition prints.
Photography Folio Preparation
The Photography Folio Preparation short course is for people wishing to improve their skills in digital photography. If you are looking at further study, this is an excellent opportunity to produce an impressive portfolio of prints/images for tertiary course entry. Topics include: components of a camera, image processing, asset management, printing, colour balance and levels adjustment, print presentation.
